Virtual Worlds seem to be the order of the day these days. So after Godrej went virtual from the real by launching Gojiyo.com (which we blogged about here). Now its time for kids to get their own space for vitual play time. Games2win.com the online casual gaming company headed by Alok Kejriwal has launched a virtual world called Chimpoo.com for kids. Chimpoo as most will notice has many similarities to the mascot of Games2win.com itself. This new initiative is aimed at the target audience of 5-12 years old kids Infact given that Games2win has been famous for its dress up games it chooses to offer the same feature in its kids game as well. Once a user logs on to the site he has the option to signup or directly play and get a chimp that can now move around in the virtual world and say and do things. Subscription Pricing I find it funny when companies do a press release stating that this is for Indian kids and then have their pricing plans in dollars. Check Screenshot below: This does seem like a global play by Games2win which itself gets a lot of traffic from US and China rather than India. Will Games2win’s Reputation Scare Away Parents? If I were a parent of a 5-12 year old kid Id be very concerned on what he accesses on the web. Given Games2win.com’s reputation of providing naughty games (check examplehere) one only wonders how a parent would feel allowing his or her kid to access the site made by the same company. Now don’t get me wrong I get the fact that Games2win is a professional company and it will probably never mix the two genre’s of gaming but If I were an unaware parent and I researched a bit on the Chimpoo site and landed on games2win.com I would surely find it tough to allow my kids given the strong connection between the two sites. This is again from a conservative Indian mentality. I believe from a global standpoint it may not have that much of an impact. Or would it? What’s your take?
